Stamps are common features in every office and organisation. They signify the identity of an organisation or a person. A simple stamp is usually made up of a moulded, engraved or carved sheet of rubber. The impression is made by either using a pigment or dye.
The rubber is frequently mounted on a stable object like an acrylic or wooden block to produce a solid instrument. The ink layered rubberstamp can then be pressed onto a medium which can either be a fabric or a piece of paper. Rubber stamps were initially invented in ancient China. These rubber stamps had carvings that were used by the emperor as an imperial seal to approve all documents.
There were further developments in seals and presently they are used by individuals as their personalised stamps. Today, commercial rubber stamps can broadly be divided into two categories – the ones that are used as children play toys or decorative items and the other that are used by commercial organisations.
Rubber stamps presently used by commercial organisations are used as permanent representation of a company’s official logo or name. These stamps can also be used as official proofs in the court of law. The popularity of these stamps is also rapidly growing as decorative items. These stamps come in an extensive range of shapes, designs and colours. They are usually used to decorate envelopes, fabrics, pottery greeting cards and other decorative pieces.
