Choose some more original Valentine’s gifts

January 26, 2010

The festive period may be well and truly behind us, but that doesn’t mean that people are not celebrating other occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and of course Valentine’s Day.

It’s one of those occasions that simply creeps up on you and before you know it, the shops are bursting at the seams with balloons, teddy bears, flowers and chocolates.

But before you settle for those tired old chocolates or a tacky teddy bear, take a moment to consider whether there is anything more appropriate and personal that you could get for your partner.

For example, if they have a hobby, perhaps it is a good idea to buy them something to do with this hobby. If your partner plays golf in their spare time, then some golf gifts are the ideal present.

For anyone who is passionate about the sport, some personalised golf towels would be a welcome gift. These can come with the recipient’s name embroidered on and with an image of a golfer on the towel.
Personalised golf balls are another option and even golf tees can be personalised for that extra special gift.

So if you’re struggling for an idea for Valentine’s Day this year, then perhaps some golf gifts might be the answer.

Design your business cards appropriately to land your dream job

There’s a lot to be said for business cards. Not only are they great for handing out to colleagues, but give them to the right people and you may just end up with your dream job.

Business cards are perfectly designed to easily be stored away into wallets and business card holders. This means that they are unlikely to get lost or thrown away.

You can choose your business cards to be designed in many different styles. So perhaps, if you are a lawyer, you may want a simple design which looks professional with text in a black tone and formal font.

However, if you provide children’s entertainment services, then the design would be completely different; you may decide that you want brightly coloured text in a handwritten style font and with pictures on the card too. It all depends on what you think might make the right impression.

Whatever design you choose, it cannot be denied that business cards can be really powerful. These days, networking is incredibly important and if you happen to give your business card to the right person, it could mean that you end up with a dream job sometime in the future.

The person who you gave your card to is likely to keep hold of it and if it gives off the right impression, they will remember to give you a call should they have any suitable work in the future.

Buy personalised gifts to stand out from the crowd

With the high streets these days all looking the same, it sometimes feels as though you can’t go outside without bumping into someone with exactly the same coat or bag as you.

Most people follow the fashion of the moment and a lot of shops tend to sell very similar designs. So it can be nice to see something different which will make you stand out from the crowd and not blend in with it.

You can easily find yourself something different by opting for personalised items. For example, it is highly unlikely that you will spot someone out who has a picture of your dog printed on their bag. But that’s exactly what you could have if you opt for personalised photo gifts.

With these items, you can choose your favourite photograph to be printed on to really make a statement. So you can opt for a personalised beach bag for those holidays abroad or a personalised shoulder bag for those weekend shopping trips.

For a really special personalised gift which will last all year round, you could always opt for a personalised calendar and you can fill the photograph spaces with your favourite photos of your pet or your children. These make excellent gifts for grandparents or other close relatives.

The birth of a baby is a very special time and one that the whole family can enjoy. When the new parents have announced the birth of their child, it is certain that they will be bombarded with visitors, phone calls and gifts because everyone loves the news of a new baby in the world.

But when you know the mother will be swamped in chocolates and flowers, it can be difficult to decide what to get the new parents as a way of congratulating them. The answer is to get them a baby basket.

These baby baskets are a really special gift as they are filled with useful items. Usually, in a baby basket, you will get items such as a personalised teddy bear complete with a message of your choice, a babygro and comforter which is embroidered with the baby’s name and a vest and booties.

There are different choices of baby baskets to choose from and some even include a baby photo album so that the new parents can record every special moment as the baby grows.

And you can choose either a blue themed basket or a pink one depending upon whether the new born baby is a girl or a boy.

Address labels make for a more efficient office

If you work in an office, you will know that organisation is the key. Without a little bit of basic organisation, your office can become a complete nightmare with no systems in place and with paperwork everywhere.

But in order to keep your systems in place, you may need some equipment. There are certain pieces of office equipment which can really make a difference to the way in which you work and the efficiency of the office as a whole.

One thing which can make a huge impact on the productivity of the office is the system used to send out your post.

With the use of address labels, you can easily make posting out letters quick and easy. By handwriting your addresses, you are taking up valuable time and this job can be quite tedious for the person doing the writing.

You can invest in address labels for your regular clients or customers and save lots of time as you simply peel the labels off and stick them onto the letter. Not only is it time saving, but this method also ensures that the post will arrive at its intended destination, because the address will be typed out clearly on the address labels, saving the postman from having to work out any handwritten addresses.

Business card etiquette around the world

Business cards are small but vital tools the world over. If you have had business cards printed and you’re likely to be handing them over to people from other countries, it’s vital that you know about local customs.

The Japanese exchange business cards with a great deal of ceremony. Cards are handed over using both hands. When receiving a card, you must also take it with both hands before giving a bow and thanking the person for meeting you. Cards are left on display for the remainder of the meeting. Do not write on the card, nor should you put it in a wallet or pocket. Instead, cards are placed in card holders to show respect.

In India, it is customary to hand the card over in such a way that it can be read as it is being given to the person. Cards are exchanged using only the right hand.

In the United States, card etiquette is less formal. Far from being advised not to write on the card, many are produced with space in which to make additional notes.

In China, you should present your own card before requesting one from the other person. There should also be a simplified translation of the information on the card in the local dialect. Just as the Japanese do, the card is handed over using both hands, with the Chinese text uppermost and presented so that the receiver can read it. After receiving a card, you should bow and thank the person for agreeing to meet. As in Japan, cards are not put away nor written on.

Ensure that your letters are delivered correctly

There aren’t many businesses in the country that can say their post always arrives accurately and on time. Of course, with larger businesses who send out a lot of post everyday, the margin for error is huge, so it is important to do everything possible in order to give your post the best chance of arriving at the correct address at the correct time.

One way to avoid your post becoming lost is by labelling it with your own address as well as the recipient’s address. By doing this, you are ensuring that should there be any problem delivering your letter or package, it will be sent straight back to you. This is extremely useful for valuable and irreplaceable items and documents.

An easy and fast way of labelling all your post with your own address is by using rubber stamps. Invest in some self inking rubber stamps and you will simply be able to press your address on to the back of every letter or parcel that you send.

It is a good idea to avoid hand written recipient addresses too. The best way to do this is by investing in some address labels with the names and addresses of your most frequent customers and clients printed on them. This will save lots of time and will ensure that the address is clear for the postman to read.

Label your child’s possessions for school

If you are a parent, you will know just how frequently your children lose their belongings. It seems as though every time they go back to school, you are buying them a new jumper, lunchbox or shoes.

It can sometimes feel as though there is a massive black hole just eating up all of your child’s possessions.

But one way in which you can reduce the chances of your child’s belongings becoming lost is by investing in some nametapes. These are a great idea as they can be attached to your child’s possessions to distinguish them from all the other children’s’ possessions and also to allow them to be returned to your child even if they do lose something.

For clothes such as your child’s school jumper, you can pick up some sew-on nametapes; or perhaps iron-on nametapes are more convenient. You could even choose picture nametapes to make your child’s clothes even more personalised.

If you do not want to invest in any nametapes then there is the option of a laundry pen or even a fabric stamp which can make labelling your child’s possessions much easier.

There are so many different ways of labelling your child’s clothes and possessions that you should never have to worry about losing them to the black hole ever again. So next time they go back to school, you won’t be forking out for any new clothes.

Special invitations for special occasions

If you have a special occasion coming up, you will know just how much planning and organisation they take.

For example, the planning of a wedding could take months or even years to complete and even a simple christening requires a lot of thought and organisation.

But one of the first things to arrange for any such occasions is the stationery. This needs to be organised first because invitations need to be sent out as soon as possible.

There are plenty of designs to choose from when it comes to both weddings and christenings and you can even personalise your invitations by designing them around your own photo to make them even more special. So for example, for your wedding invitation, you could design it around a photograph of you as a couple or for a christening invitation, it could be designed using your favourite photo of your baby.

Whatever design you choose for your invitations, you need to ensure that they are sent out in good time. That is particularly the case if the special event is to be held in the summer, because this will avoid any guests booking holidays which clash with your special day.

Say thank you for your Christmas gifts

January 22, 2010

Christmas has been and gone and we’re all back to work and the children are back to school. It’s now that time of year where we sit down and write out our thank you cards.

Every single year we get bombarded with gifts from friends and family; some of whom we rarely see. So when they’ve taken the time to think of you, spend time looking for a suitable gift and spend their money on you, the least you can do is thank them for their kindness.

But rather than sending a text, or an email, it is so much nicer and more personal if you take the time to write a hand written thank you card. There are so many different styles of thank you cards to choose from and you can even personalise them to make them even more special.

Your friends and family will be absolutely delighted to receive a card from you and it will show them just how appreciative you are for their gift.

Despite the popularity of texts, instant messaging and emails, there’s nothing quite like receiving a personalised thank you card. So make the effort this year and show your friends and family just how grateful you are.
